Ava’s daisy inspired girls bedroom

I’m incredibly excited to finally share Ava’s daisy-inspired girls’ bedroom!!!! When our littlest lady requested daisies, rainbows and butterflies for her room revamp, mama shuddered. It sounded like A LOT! Until I realised Ava was actually describing herself by referring to the things she loves the most…
So instead of focusing on a theme, I shifted my approach. Rather creating a space that celebrates our little flower-loving, joyful, boho babe! And this is how it all turned out…
Getting inspired…
Ava was gifted the most beautiful personalised print by Dear Ariah Stationery. It perfectly combined all the things she loved with the colours we wanted to bring into her room…

Warm tones, bright colours, crisp whites and loads of whimsical touches would be at the core of Ava’s room revamp.
Time to paint…
Previously, Ava’s room was much darker with moody blooms and deep purples. A few coats of white paint over exposed brick and a wall filled with pretty daisies transformed this space instantly.

* I painted Ava’s daisy wall by hand after feeling inspired by the talented A Beautiful Mess.
Next, The bed…
Ava was super impressed to upgrade from a toddler bed to her sister’s custom-made adjoined bed. It served them well and will do the same for Ava.

My favourite feature to this bed has to be the storage drawers underneath. They work great for keeping toys tidy and out of sight.

I also found the perfect Rainbow bedding by Linen House. Colourful and fun but still calm and warm.

A few cushions scattered along the side of the bed add pops of texture and even a soft daisy or two. (Thanks MRP Home.)
Easy storage is a must…
Bed drawers are wonderful but our little lady has loads of tiny collectibles and toys that store better in baskets. A lick of white paint and a few plastic crates from Superbalist and Typo turns an old bookshelf into a play space where Ava can easily access and put away the toys she’s enjoying most at the moment.

* This system works well for toy rotation too.

An extra basket or two always proves useful as well.
Encouraging Ava’s independent nature…
Ava loves setting out her clothes and planning her outfits for the week. An old bookshelf turned upside down with 5 pretty kids’ clothing hangers gives Ava a space to set out the items she wants to wear. She never forgets to “iron” either… And why not, it’s certainly a skill she’ll be using for the rest of her life.

We added a tiny dressing table to Ava’s room. Nothing fancy, just somewhere for her to “do her make-up” (a favourite pastime). Now all her brushes and hair accessories are safe and together.

Both of these corners have made life a little easier as Ava learns to take care of herself in small ways. Best of all, she learns without even noticing as she plays.
Every bedroom needs a reading nook…
Or maybe it’s just a “rule” in our family? Instilling a love for reading is important to us and after seeing how much all the girls enjoy Eliana & Lia’s reading corner with its Play Pod Modular Play Couch, I knew Ava needed one of her own!

Storytime isn’t only comfortable but soon turns into play as Ava’s imagination takes flight building a princess castle, pirate boat or roaring race car. We can’t recommend Play Pod more! Designed and made in South Africa. These compact sofas are made up of 8 cushions but hold endless possibilities as it grows with your little one.

* Covers can be removed and washed in the machine.

A few wooden book ledges filled with Ava’s favourite stories and a pretty gallery wall complete this nook.

Extra special touches…
- An old Dovetail Studio table and bunny chairs set was giving new life with a coat of white. A necessity for impromptu tea parties and more…

- I stumbled upon the softest Fotakis Faux Sheep carpet on Superbalist. Laying on it feels like drifting on a cloud, over the rainbow ofcourse.

- Words of affirmation are a powerful thing and that’s exactly why we added an Amaranto Collection “self-affirmation” poster set to Ava’s room. “Read” it, recite it and believe it little wild flower!

- Being able to share a friend from my own childhood is probably the most special touch in Ava’s room. My mom knitted me this life-size Pink Pather when I was Ava’s age. Passing him on to her is definitely a moment I’ll remember forever. Hopefully, he will be just as precious to her (and maybe even her daughter(s)) one day.

- Lastly, every tiny adventurer needs a backpack to keep all their supplies and treasures. The Tiny Traveler from Willow & Roo couldn’t be cuter or more comfortable with its adjustable straps. It’s also full of pockets and pouches for all those valuables. Thoughtfully designed to encourage fine motor skill development as well as sustainably made and ethically hand crafted in Cape Town. Plus it’s easy to clean and made to LAST!

* Ava has a Wildflower traveler and you’ll find 4 more options on their website.
All smiles, rainbows, daisies and sunshine!
Ava absolutely LOVES her room and that makes my mama-heart skip a beat! It may have been a tall order but I think we did okay… What do you think, do you give the room a thumbs-up or a thumbs down? Let us know in a comment below.
