Party inspiration | 40th Birthday party, for him!

We love a good celebration and putting together a pretty party has always been my thing. So when Mr. Perfect turned the big FORTY this year, I knew we’d be doing something special… BUT planning a 40th birthday party for him would be very different from anything else we’ve done before.

A theme…
Dress-up parties can be fun and something formal makes an impression too but when it comes to this birthday boy, “less is ALWAYS more” so we kept to a minimalist, urban feel. Celebrating Mr. Perfect’s Pretoria roots with a rooftop party at one of the coolest venues in town – Moonshot Café.

The Venue…
With a venue like this, not much else is needed.

Moonshot Café ticks every box when it comes to modern, urban, city living. With just the right amount of industrial finishes, complemented by touches of greenery and a dash of quirkiness.

And you can not beat this view!

It’s the perfect setting for an “adults-only” celebration.
FOod & Drinks…
The venue took care of everything. We had a choice between either going for a street foods vibe OR doing a harvest table lamb spitbraai with ALL the trimmings. The latter won!

Succulent, fall-off-the-bone lamb served with freshly baked bread and preserves as well as crispy, roasted baby potatoes accompanied by a fresh Green Salad and a gourmet Butternut, Broccoli and Chickpea Salad.
Moonshot Café covered dessert too. A choice between either a slice of Baked Cheesecake (Mr. Perfect’s favourite) OR French Chocolate Tart.

We made sure the “bubbly” was flowing. For the rest, our guests ordered whatever they liked from the Moonshot Café cash bar.

We also swopped out a traditional birthday cake in favour of a round of shots, because at 40 – you make the rules!

Now for the decor…
As always I called in the help of Konfetti Love Rentals because Marissa & her team never have a shortage of ideas or props to take any party to the next level.

With a venue that already provided so much, we only needed to focus on table decor.
Working with Moonshot Cafe’s clean, wooden tables and black, steel chairs – we simply added a few black vases, trays and glass, candle holders.

Moss green linen napkins and stand-alone candles from MRP Home gave an extra layer of texture and ambiance.

It may be a 40th birthday party, for him but that doesn’t mean NO flowers…
We used the leaves of 2 Philodendron Birkin plants (recommended by Konfetti Love for their striking leaf appearance) with a few carefully placed white tulips to add pops of green and white. Just a touch of elegance while still keeping to the modern, minimalist feel of the evening.

A something extra…
40 years is a long time and deserves a little walk down memory lane so with the help of Mf.Designs we created a little tribute to Mr. Perfect.

We printed one large-format copy to have on display at the party and also shared a digital version with all the guests to enjoy or keep. It provided such a laugh and got everyone chatting. A perfect “ice-breaker” to kick off the evening.

The party Was a hit!
After all the prepping and planning, the best part of the evening was seeing Mr. Perfect’s reaction… He had known we were meeting our friends and family to celebrate but, all the details of the evening were kept a surprise!

It was a night of good food, great friends and unforgettable memories! A perfect start to the next 40 years…
