As our girls grow older we consciously move towards incorporating more Biblical meaning and symbols into our Easter celebrations. All in an effort to keep Jesus the focus. Resurrection Eggs are anything new. A quick google search renders millions of results. I however wanted to create something easy, yet meaningful for families to enjoy together… Hence this Resurrection Eggs printable!

I’ve also included a few favourite Easter reads and local treats and gifts. It’s a little glimpse into how we celebrate Holy Week. Teaching our girls the endless love of God.

How we Celebrate Holy Week with our Resurrection eggs printable…

Palm Sunday kicks off Holy Week.

It’s the beginning of Jesus’s journey to the cross and this year we have a very special storybook to share with the girls.

the masters donkey christian easter childrens book

The Master’s Donkey is a story about a young donkey questioning his purpose in life. He compares himself with other animals, believing that everyone except him has a special gift or talent. In the end, despite what he believes about himself, he is chosen for a very important job.

It’s such a lovely story reminding us how truly valued every part of creation is and how every part plays a role in God’s divine plan.

Traditionally Monday to Wednesday doesn’t include any specific occasions. So I’ve included 2 “blank eggs”. Use these to write down scriptures you would like to dwell on during these days or surprise the kids with a fun family date or activity.

This year we’ll be doing the following:

Monday – What was Jesus like.

Stories are such a wonderful learning aid, especially for younger little ones. So, again we’ll be enjoying some precious storytime. I’ve wrapped 3 books for the girls to enjoy. Themes include the Fruits of the Spirit as well as short examples of ways Jesus loved children.

easter books to read

All of these help to remind us that we are called to live as Jesus did and to love each other the way He loves us.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” – John 13:34

John 13:34
  1. Jesus is lief vir klein hartjies
  2. Fruits Of The Spirit Series by Jenna Northwood – Love Patience Kindness
  3. Fruits Of The Spirit Series by Jenna Northwood – Peace Joy Faithfulness
Tuesday – The Lord’s Prayer.

Taking time to learn the way Jesus taught us all to pray. Matthew 6:9-13

Wednesday – Days before the crucifixion.

Back to our Resurrection eggs printable and Judas’ betrayal of Jesus. Matthew 26:14-16

Maundy Thursday – The washing of the feet & Family Communion.

This is always a highlight!

Taking time to wash each other’s feet, read through the various scriptures, the breaking of the bread and the drinking of the wine (cider for the kids), while enjoying a special supper is a family tradition we hope will last for many more generations to come. John 13:14-15 , Matthew 26:26-28, Matthew 26:39.

Good Friday – The day of the Crucifixion.

Each year Good Friday becomes more special. We take time to study the scripture and try our best to answer the many questions our girls have about this momentous occasion. It’s impossible not to be shaken by God’s sacrifice for all of us…

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

– John 3:16

Holy Saturday –

This day marks the end of Lent and is usually a very calm, quiet day in our home. A day of rest and reflection over the weeks past. We complete the story of Jesus’s crucifixion with Matthew 27:59-60 & 65-66; the burial of Jesus’s body. The girls also finally receive their Easter Baskets. (More on those later.)

Easter Sunday – A day of celebration!

We start the day with an early morning Easter Egg hunt. Hollow Easter eggs and bunnies are hidden in remembrance of Jesus’s empty grave. Afterward, we attend the Easter church service followed by a triumphant Easter lunch.

Gratitude is the “theme” of the day as we rejoice over God’s greatest gift to us all… Eternal life! Matthew 28:1-6

Now for the “Extras”…

Decorating our home and putting together Easter baskets for the girls is something I enjoy. Making sure everything I do reflects God’s love in one way or another. For tips on how we navigate the Easter bunny and keep everything “Christ-centered” be sure to have a look at our Easter posts from previous years:

Lovely Easter finds to fill the homE…

  1. Thornewood Treasures Easter sets. We just love this 8 piece set which doubles as Calvary on one side, and the tomb on the other. It also includes three figurines (two women and an angel) and three wooden crosses that fit into slots on top of the hill. On Good Friday, have the Calvary part of the set face the front. Place the three crosses in position, and add the mourning figures of the women. At sunset, remove the crosses, turn the set around and close the tomb. On Resurrection Sunday, open the empty grave and add the angel bringing the good news that Jesus has risen!
  2. Wooden Bunny Egg Cups/serviette holders from Tinsel Toes. Just a touch of Easter delight for the table this year. You’ll find loads more Easter decor in the Tinsel Toes Easter Shop too. From beautifully handpainted Easter Eggs to artisanal treats and crafts for the kids.
