Esse | organic skin care for aging skin

by | Aug 18, 2022 | Clean Beauty, Things we love | 63 comments

*This post is not sponsored. I was gifted an Esse 30-Day Rewilding set and wanted to share more about my experience.

Confession time… I suck at maintaining a good skincare regime. I go through “good seasons” when I do all the things I’m supposed to but then life gets busy and I get lazy! And if budget cuts are needed… my creams and lotions are the first to go. Add how tricky it can be to find legitimate organic skin care for aging skin, and it all simply feels like too much of a hassle!

Clean skincare products

So here’s what I’m looking for…

  • Products that WORK: Once 35 hits everything starts to sag. All those years of neglect and sun damage seem to appear overnight. I need products that can prevent further damage while also repairing. I would however like to keep my face, my age (if that makes sense).
  • A routine that fits into a mama-of-3’s lifestyle and budget: I also don’t have Kim K’s beauty budget. A few quick, easy and effective basics need to do the trick. That being said, I will spend on products that deliver and last a reasonable amount of time.
  • Certified organic skin care products: Even though I have a good idea of which ingredients to avoid (see the list below) it’s not always easy spotting them when browsing the beauty shelves. A lot of brands don’t show the complete list. And with so much “greenwashing” going on, I’m relying on experts such as Ecocert to help guide my choices.
dirty dozen ingredients to avoid in skincare 2
  • Being Cruelty-free should be the standard and is non-negotiable.
  • Finding products that are Carbon- and Plastic-Neutral is a must: From manufacturer to consumer. We all need to do better when it comes to being responsible.
  • I’m looking for brands that adhere to Fair Trade standards. Far too often we take for ourselves without considering the consequences to others. By supporting fair trade products we can ensure nature stays intact, and its natural ingredients as potent as God-intended. Even more importantly, we’re supporting people in their local communities, helping them create a future for their families too.
  • Lastly, as always, we try to support local 1st!
clean beauty certifications to trust

I know it’s a tall order but that’s exactly why I needed to write this blog post…

I’ve finally found organic skin care (for aging skin) that ticks all the boxes mentioned above!

*I mention “aging skin” simply because that’s MY main concern. Other skin concerns will however also benefit from these incredible products.

Introducing… ESSE!

esse skincare review 1

Truthfully, Esse has been my on-again-off-again skincare range of choice for years. I would be lured away by the pretty packaging and yummy scents only to realise that most of these didn’t work quite as effectively.

What makes Esse different from other “clean beauty” brands is the science and research behind the products. They reminded me of this when I received a 30-Day Rewilding gift set. I didn’t change a thing, other than only using the products provided and implementing the “rewilding tips” suggested by Esse. My before and after photos (3 weeks later) convinced me once again that Esse is the best!

esse skin care review just a mamma
changes I noticed and can see in these photos include:
  • Overall even, smoother skin texture.
  • Less dryness and redness especially around my nose and lips.
  • Softer lines around my eyes.
  • Somehow the tone of my skin seemed richer too.
These are the products I used:

Why does Esse work so well?

Modern-day living and the increased use of industrial beauty products have disrupted our skin’s ecosystem. This leads to a rise in sensitivity and inflammatory skin conditions. Esse product ranges are scientifically formulated for all skin types – with prebiotics, probiotics and active ingredients to get our skin back to its best. The organic biotechnology used, together with well-researched “rewilding” techniques restores our microbiome.

Our microbiome is like a living armor on our skin that creates a barrier to protect us from pathogens and other adverse effects of our modern lifestyles. Keeping the microbiome “happy” with the help of probiotics and prebiotics restores our skin, making it healthier and younger looking. Keeping the ecosystem in balance ensures that our skin thrives.

How to boost your Microbiome, today!

3 “Rewilding tips” from Esse that anyone, using any skincare range can start implementing today include:

Now, would you like to try Esse for yourself?

I am giving away a 30-Day Esse Rewilding gift set worth R1000. The pack contains a month’s supply of 5 Sensitive Range products, designed to strengthen barrier function and support a healthier skin microbiome. This is a limited edition set and is only still available at selected Wellness Warehouse stores so entering is a must!

Looks like a great range. My tip is use coconut oil to remove makeup. I have really sensitive skin and using coconut oil toe remove especially eye makeup has reduced redness, irritation and the puffiness I get from other makeup removers. Also it is natural and clean.

Dont forget to exfoliate your face! Most woman skip this. It helps to get rid of the dead cells. Virgin coconut oil helps alot for dry skin

I have never and never will go to sleep with makeup on, also don’t wash your face with soap in the morning, just a light rinse to remove dust and sleep from eyes is enough.

Ah, great to hear about more clean (and accesible) skincare brands in sunny South Africa. The photos clearly show the difference 😍 One tip is that less is more with skincare – less weird ingredients in our products, scrub less often as we don’t want to cause inflammation etc, we don’t need 10 different products to use daily… find a few basic products that work really well.

      Lieflike post!

Thank you for your detailed post. I’m on the hunt for products like these to start taking care of my skin the way it should be.

I’ve recently learnt that using high SPF creams should be avoided as they contain higher concentrations of chemical ingredients.

I always double cleanse at night when I’ve worn makeup the whole day. I use a oil cleanser first as it almost melts off my makeup and is super gentle on my skin. Wearing SPF has also been a game changer for me and is so important!

My TOP tip is facial massage. When applying your products (especially a lovely oil at night) take some time to massage your face. There are loads of free tips on the “how” online. It really does help with lymphatic drainage and improve overall appearance.
