Choosing the right sunglasses for your face shape

by | Sep 11, 2020 | Fashion for Moms, Giveaways, What we wear | 15 comments

Summer is around the corner and even though we may not be planning big holidays or lavish pool parties, we’re all sure to spend some time in the sun! By now we’re good at remembering the sunscreen but what about our eyes? They need protection too and now thanks to some help from our favourite optometrist, Chené at Eyeland Castle Walk we can all look fab, by choosing the right sunglasses for your face shape!

Maui Jim Sunglass Review

First, 5 R E A S O N S why you shouldn’t go cheap when it comes to your sunglasses…

  1. A proper pair of sunglasses will protect your eyes from the ultraviolet rays in sunlight. Ultraviolet (UV) light damages the cornea and the retina. Good sunglasses can eliminate UV rays completely.
  2. Sunglasses provide protection from intense light. When the eye receives too much light, it naturally closes the iris. when it can’t close any further, we start squinting. If there is still too much light, it causes damage to the retina. Your sunglasses should block intense light and put your eyes at ease.
  3. Your sunglasses should provide protection from glare. Certain surfaces, such as water, can reflect a great deal of light, and the bright spots can be distracting or can hide objects. Good sunglasses can completely eliminate this kind of glare using polarization.
  4. Good sunglasses eliminate specific frequencies of light. Certain frequencies of light can blur vision, and others can enhance contrast. Choosing the right colour for your sunglasses lets them work better in specific situations. That’s why it’s always a good idea to chat with an optometrist before buying sunglasses.
  5. Investing in proper sunglasses may seem expensive at first but it’s far more durable in the long run and comfortable too. You are protecting your eyes and if you take the time to find the perfect frame, you’ll love them for years!

Where To Buy Maui Jim Sunglasses

Then, remember to take care of your sunglasses…

Rinse your sunglasses daily in warm water. If necessary, use a mild cleaning liquid to wash each lens.
Always dry your sunglasses using a clean, soft, absorbent cloth.
DO NOT use paper-based products to clean your lenses.
DON’T use abrasive cleaners, soaps or detergents that may leave a deposit on the lens.
DO NOT use tissues with added lotions, lanolin, silicone or other cleaners; they will leave a film on the lens.
* If you see white spots on lenses after drying them it may be because of “Hard” water. (“Hard” water contains high levels of dissolved minerals, especially calcium and magnesium. It’s “softened” by the addition of sodium during the filtering process.) To avoid spotting, simply rinse your glasses with filtered (tap) water, and wipe dry with a clean cloth.

WIN | Time to get YOU into a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses…

For the purposes of this post, I got to play around with 4 pairs Maui Jim sunglasses and I hated giving them back…

When it comes to sunglass brands Maui Jim is one of the best because, who does sunglasses better than a brand founded on the beach? Over 30 years ago this, then small, Hawaiin business started selling sunglasses on Ka’anapali beach in Lahaina, Maui. Their collection was tiny but today it includes over 125 styles of sunglasses being sold worldwide!

Why? Because no sunglass lens can compare to their PolarizedPlus2® lens which combats intense glare and blocks 100%  of the harmful UV and UVB rays while bringing the brilliant colors of our world to life. It’s magical seeing everything through these lenses. (I’m already jealous of our winner!)

To this day Maui Jim still calls Lahaina home and every pair of sunglasses gets designed and tested there! Thankfully for us, Eyeland Castle Walk only stock the best and now we get to spoil one of you with a beautiful pair too.
