Proudly South African Breastfeeding-friendly Fashion SS’18

by | Oct 30, 2017 | Breastfeeding, Fashion for Moms, What we wear | 0 comments

So you’re a new mama or maybe this is your 3rd… That doesn’t mean you’ve suddenly stopped being a woman, loving fashion and wanting to feel pretty. No way I’m giving in to the stereotypical image of mom life and you don’t need to either. SS’18 trends have got us mama’s covered with beautiful breastfeeding-friendly fashion to pick and choose from. Today I share 3 of my favourite looks AND as an added bonus I’ve kept all the brands proudly South African too.

Look 1: Midi-length skirts and tees

High waisted skirts with broad waistbands are a must after baby, hugging you in all the right places, hiding any flab and creating the illusion of a bombshell hourglass figure.

Now lets take a moment to appreciate the new collection by Poetry. They have outdone themselves this year with a collection that isn’t just stunningly beautiful but also wearable, fun, feminine and now mama approved too.

Breastfeeding-friendly Fashion

This Shannyn Printed Skirt is my number one pick. Firstly because of the pockets, did you see the pockets? All skirts should have pockets. Secondly the gorgeous paint brush style print in an array of shades and colours. I can’t help but feel fun, flirty and pretty in this.

Then, don’t be scared of the tee-shirt. It’s still an easy breastfeeding garment especially when paired with anything high waisted. You simply lift up and feed.

Remember: Be sure to buy tees that aren’t too tight fitting or sheer.

Once again Poetry has the perfect must-have staple tee. The Candy Embroidered Tee is soft and a great fit. Delicate floral embroidery along the front gives it that “special touch” and best of all, it will go with loads of other pieces in your closet too. I simply had to have the yellow too.

Dress this look up with a pair of heels or keep things casual with ballet flats. It’s classic, effortless beauty.

Look 2: High waist, wide-leg trousers and crop tops

Be bold with your fashion choices! Look sophisticated while playing with the kids, picking things up from the floor and wiping those noses clean. Also, no need to squeeze into anything “skinny”.

Breastfeeding-friendly Fashion

Once again the higher waisted style is a win. Not to be confused with mom-jeans (although equally as comfortable) these Portia Wide-leg Trousers – also Poetry – are fashion forward and chic all due to the brilliant tailoring and fabric choice. Thank you Poetry for choosing a pinstripe and creating the perfect leg-elongating silhouette.

Just add a crop top (mine is last season Jane Sews) and you’ll be breastfeeding with ease anywhere.

Sneakers makes for a relaxed laid-back look but wedges takes this outfit straight into party mode.

Look 3: Peasant Tops and Dresses

Playful frills and ruffles… The peasant / boho charm is still very much “in” but finding tops and dresses in this style that are also nursing friendly can be tricky. Off-the-shoulder looks gives easy boob access but if you’re like me and need to wear a bra and breast pads at all times this style isn’t ideal. Thank goodness for Momsy! You might remember them from a feature we ran a few weeks ago (click here to read more).

I give you; The Trendy, Momsy’s newest nursing dress. Launched just in time for Summer.

Breastfeeding-friendly Fashion

Pretty frilled sleeves and gathering creates a romantic flowy silhouette. Cut right at the knee, this summer dress is short even to keep you cool but long enough to have you “mom-ing” like normal too.Breastfeeding-friendly Fashion

Featuring their signature invisible zips on both sides of the dress provides for easy nursing access. Barely noticeable, great quality and easy to zip and unzip. Kale is my favourite but with blush, black, mustard and more colours to choice from you could have a Momsy for everyday of the week. (I’m getting there…)

With the addition of heels or pumps you can dress this look as glam or casual as you please.

Fashion that stays in style

All these looks are classic and effortless and each pieces mentioned is well worth the investment. Items you’ll be wearing during and long after breastfeeding.

Big shout-out Tiger’s Milk, Lynnwood for letting us hang out and use their incredible space for our photos. They have an upstairs bar perfect for date night and a family-friendly downstairs you can come and enjoy with the kids. Open daily for lunch and dinner. They have mocktails, “Damn Fine Milkshakes”, home-brewed draughts and REAL food. I can’t wait to take Mr. Perfect and the girls for some good eating.
