Maternity shoots are usually all about the belly, the mommy and the love between the couple that helped create this new little human. When you are blessed to experience a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th pregnancy, siblings add to the joy and while expecting our second little girl back in 2014 we knew we wanted to include big sis, Eliana in a family maternity photoshoot.

Being only 2 at the time and naturally camera shy, posing wasn’t really her thing so we had to come up with a fun concept where we could still celebrate “the bump” but also included Eli.

Painting is a sure-fire toddler favourite!

Face-painting was the current craze so we decided to embrace it and take it up a notch by BODY PAINTING. Getting comfortable on a blanket, on our “stoep” with clothes we didn’t mind ruining… We had face-paint, body-paint, glitter, brushes, water and some old lipstick. We wanted to have fun, talk about baby and make some colourful memories together.

Very little instruction is needed…

Painting my huge belly seemed to be an obvious choice to everyone… As well as painting ones own body… Hand-prints, foot-prints, smiley faces and pretty doodles… The photos speak for themselves. Sit back and enjoy!

When Eliana asked for her tummy to be painted as well. She was after all “also expecting a baby sister.”

Even Mr.Perfect got a make-over, taking it like the #girldad hero he is.

Top Mommy Tips

Have plenty of water, towels and wet wipes handy, things get messy and spills happen. Have the photographer tell you where to set-up for the best lighting and surprise your little one with this fun family activity.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: just go with it and have fun. This is a quick, 20 minute shoot, because after 20 minutes most 2 years olds are done with any activity.
