Last year we had the first MAMMA COLLABORATIVE get-together, an AUTUMN TEA TASTING. It was a wonderful morning spent with mamas from different walks of life yet somehow brought together through motherhood (and social media).
Many friendships have grown from that morning and I knew it was something I wanted to do again.
With Woman’s Day around the corner the 1st day of August was perfect.
Once again our home was the best spot.
Stepping into someone’s home is like getting a glimpse of their heart. It’s also a safe, intimate space where we can all just let our hair down while connecting – taking a moment for ourselves, getting spoiled and growing our network of support.
Although networking is nice, this morning was intended to nourish the soul while giving me the opportunity to thank every beautiful lady present for being Just a Mamma’s (and my own) friend and cheerleader.
I kept things fresh, simple and focused on what was most important, my guests.
Green with touches of white and light grey on wood to symbolize life, renewal, nature, growth and energy. Unfortunately a teething baby kept me from writing the personal notes I had made for everyone but thankfully I had post party voice notes to for that.
Chilly weather calls for comfort food and with my friend Yentl recently taking the plunge and starting her own business Liewe Ekke, who better to provide some yummies for our tummies.
She prepared the most delicious trio of soups.
- A Red: Cream of tomato and basil – packed with so much flavour, it was finished first.
- A Green: Hearty vegetable soup passed down from Yentl’s mother-in-law – Ava couldn’t get enough.
- A Yellow: Sweet potato and carrot with a ginger kick – perfect for keeping a runny nose at bay.
I tried them all and it’s impossible to choose a favourite. IMPOSSIBLE!
Yentl also provided some tasty extras such as coconut milk, chai seeds, croutons and a variety of breads.
Visit the Liewe Ekke Instagram page @liewe_ekke to find out how you can order some soups and smoothies for your freezer. I’ll definitely be stocking up for lunch or those nights when I need a break from dinner prep.
PS: If you have a function and would like Yentl to cater, she can provide the beautiful soup bowls and cute wooden spoons seen above.
Our blog would be nothing if it wasn’t for the incredible woman (just like YOU reading this post), supporting and loving us. I wish I could find a way to thank and connect with every single one of you. In time I know I will.
For this occasion I invited the friends that have been there since day one as well a few girlfriends new to the world of female entrepreneurship. I also had a surprise guest that showed up the day before… My grandmother, Ouma Myra – she raised me for 7 years after my parent’s divorce.
Other guests included the amazing Amy and Carli from Lullaby Rock Apparel, Rachelle for Happi CO. – the strongest woman I know, Mariaan – the creative mind behind M.Studio, Karen from Lovilee Blog – my #girlbossgoals setter, beautiful Melissa – fellow mommy-blogger, motivational speaker, performing artist and the make-up master behind Melissa Glam Bam.
The talented sister duo behind Everli Baby, Nina and Sally. Of course, Anje-Ilana from Madison & West – my most trusted friend in business and life, the inspirational Chantelle from La Fede and The Collaborative SA, the multi-talented Mariette from Little Interiors and also The Collaborative SA.
Another fellow blogger, Sarah from Mascara & Mimosas – Sarah’s been my guiding light through many personal and blogging matters. Michelle from Mentor for Moms as well as Breastpumps + Beyond – I owe Michelle (and Medela_SA) so much, including my sanity over the past 12 months and lastly Celeste, another friend with an eye for beauty and a passion for capturing memories. Celeste is a photographer that specialises in family lifestyle photography. You can see her work over at Celeste van der Berg Photography, she was also kind enough to take a few pics of our day.
The room was a buzz with chatter and laughter. We also enjoyed heart-felt moments of sharing in each other’s lives, taking a time to reflect on what has happened over the past year. Catching up and simply reconnecting. My heart was full and ever thankful to be standing in a room filled with woman I love, trust and I know are making a difference in our world. True sisters in motherhood, respected equals in business and lionesses of womanhood.
Together we can lift each other up, walk with confidence because we know our worth. Be valued friends because we care and have no ulterior motives. Have each other’s back, no matter what and be a helping hand when needed. I am truly blessed to call everyone of these ladies, my friend.
And naturally we ended on a sweet note…
Chocolate cake (that apparently won best in Pretoria last year) and the most delicious bienenstich you’ll find. Both from Der Zuckerbäcker at Menlyn Retail Park. If you haven’t been, believe me it’s a worthwhile outing with the best German baked goods, food and confectioneries around.
I can’t wait for next year’s get-together! Seeing where we all will be, how much we’ve grown and also who’ll be joining.
