Winter Wellness for families – How we keep our family healthy
Winter Wellness for families is a hot topic every year but this year, it’s more important than ever to make sure we stay healthy and safe. I am not a doctor or any type of healthcare provider. Just a mom that believes in prevention over cure and giving our bodies as much natural support as possible. We prioritize healthy eating and exercise throughout the year but as winter rolls in we take a few extra precautions to keep the sniffles at bay.
5 Ways we are staying healthy this winter!
1. A teaspoon of Rosita Cod Liver oil to start the day
* After the information that came to light after watching the documentary Seaspiracy we have decided to no longer use cod liver oil.
I lived with my grandma for a good few years growing up and Cod Liver Oil, daily, was non-negotiable. Now years later I still see the benefits and we are teaching our girls this healthy habit too.
Rosita Cod Liver Oil contains:
- Vitamin A and
- Vitamin D
- a complete range of raw omega fats including omega 3, 4, 6, 7, 9 and 11 fats.
- It is particularly rich in the long-chain omega-3s (EPA and DHA) which are also known as essential fats because the body cannot make them from scratch, it makes these fatty acids from omega-3 linolenic acid which must come from food/diet.
However, not all Cod Liver Oils are made the same and to truly benefit you need to make sure you’re taking a good quality oil, sourced, extracted and bottled correctly.
Rosita Extra-Virgin Cod Liver Oil (EVCLO) is a “living oil” sustainably sourced from wild and abundant Norwegian codfish stock. TOP TIP: We keep our Rosita Cod Liver Oil in the fridge. Since doing so the girls haven’t complained about the taste and it’s also a little less runny, preventing spills.
2. Boosting our immunity with Young Living Essential Oils
Essential Oils have always been apart of our home but it was only after Young Living launched in South Africa that we felt comfortable enough to start using them regularly. This is due to one thing… The Young Living “SEED TO SEAL” guarantee that gives me the reassurance needed that the oils we use as a family are in fact of the highest and purest standard. Completely toxin-free and safe to use. We don’t see EO as a replacement for western medicine or a wonder cure. It’s simply another “natural tool” we use to stay healthy and less dependant on medicines.
Our favourite oils for Winter Wellness include:
- Lavender – The “Swiss Army Knife” off oils, assisting in various areas of wellness.
- Lemon – Not just great for us but also our home, as a potent cleaner.
- Thieves – This combo of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Rosemary and Eucalyptus is great at giving your immunity a boost.
- Purification – Lemongrass, Rosemary, Tea Tree, Myrtle, Citronella and Lavandin is the perfect air deodoriser and neutraliser. It even keeps the mozzies at bay during summer.
- RC (Respiratory Care) – Snotty noses, sneezes and sniffles call for this mix of various Eucalyptus types, Myrtle, Black Spruce, Peppermint, Pine, Lavender, Marjoram and Cypress.
Together with organic grapeseed oil, I enjoy making up various rollers that we apply to each other’s feet and spine 5 times a week. Our most used roller is a wellness roller (made with Thieves, Purification and Lemon OR Lavender) and I also keep a breath easy roller (made with RC and Lemon OR Lavender) handy just in case.
During winter our home is also filled with the lingering smell of Purification being diffused into the air.
Essential Oils are potent and can be harmful when misused. I don’t feel comfortable using certain oils on babies and toddlers and that’s why proper knowledge of oils, before use is important. 4. Wearing this season’s number 1 accessory… A face mask!
Facemasks have become a MUST and that’s why we’ve decided to invest in reusable masks. We have a few different styles and one of those includes a family set recently ordered from Anneen Henze. The masks are made using 2 layers of soft brushed linen with a vilene woven inner.

5. Keeping our Owgels Portable Nebulizer close

I’m actually excited about all the prizes!!! But if I had to pick I’d say the nebulizer as we have a bulky noisy one which our daughter hates. I’d love to be prepared for winter having it. I would love to win, because I’m a new mom and I’ll admit – I am struggling 😔 to adjust to my new hormones. I would absolutely love each of these items but the essential oils and the nebulizer are the most appealing! I have my second baby on the way and have treated my first little one as naturally as possible from teething to HFM!! I have been desperate to add my own set of oils to our “medical” kit. Both my little one and I are prone to colds and the nebulizer will be amazing as the one we have is terribly loud and scary.
I just started my essential oil journey, so very excited about that part of the prize. Also with a toddler and a 11 month old exploring, the Patches bandages would we great, because my toddler is rough. However the ones I have are almost finished. We love having a bath with a few drops of essential oils on days when we’ve had a particularly trough day. Would love to win the Owgels Nebulizer our kids are traumatized from our current one and the bamboo bandages our littlest human inherited my sensitive skin and refuses to use regular plasters as our skin blisters under them and when you remove the plaster it takes the blistered skin with it 😣

As a mum of two preemies I would love to win the Owgels Portable Nebulizer the most. My 1 year old son had RSV when he just came out of NICU we had to go back to hospital because he picked up RSV. My 4 year old is also prone to getting sick and we use the nebulizer every time as it’s the one thing that always works. A portable one would be absolutely amazing

I’m super excited for the nebulizer and the chew bars. I’ve yet to come across a nebulizer that doesn’t scare my son or not sound like an airplane taking off and my son has a lot of allergies to it’s very difficult to find a healthy, delicious on the go snack for him.

This whole giveaway reminds me of my son, Hunter. The Owgels Ultrasonic Portable Nebuliser is definitely on top of my list, when Hunter gets sick we always have to nebulize him. I am most excited to win the owgels nebulizer. I watched your video review and at that time i had recently been in hospital with my then 7 month old. She had RSV and we had to stay in the hospital for 3 days till her chest was better. Nebulizer sessions every 6 hours, of which every 12 was with some cortisone and the others just with the normal chest meds. It was afwul, loud and it was basically a crying session. I did some research after the video and I’m inlove with all the features. Chargeable. Quiet. Portable. Game changer! She’s 11 months old and God willing we won’t need it often but based on history and subsequent chest issues we’ll likely need to use a neb again. This one would also be so much easier for her gran to use when I’m back at work and life gets back to normal.

They may not be my biological children, but they do mean the world to me.

They are still in the NICU, Panorama Med. Cape Town, since birth. Born at 26 weeks, with premature lung disease and PIG, With their first sonar, already , the doctors painted a dim picture and since birth the waters were dark and stormy. They were so fragile, the parents were only allowed to hold them after three months. I can write a book about the past year’s trails and tribulations ………………. but those are all on the back ground now. …….. OUR BOYS WILL BE HOME SOON, AFTER A YEAR!!!!! JUBILATION!!!!!! They are going to be in hospital for their first birthday, but the light is on, at the end of the tunnel. I will not tell this story without pride for their patents and praise and thanks to our Lord Jesus. I cannot choose a gift for them, as they will be grateful for any of the awesome products, but they are going to need nebulizers at home. Anything will be appreciated and welcome.

Our son is asthmatic; we have a nebulizer, but it’s not load shedding friendly and makes a hell of a noise. It would definitely be the essential oils. The RC one to be exact as it would help tremendously with the sniffles. As a mom of a 2 year old and who also suffers from sinus and mild colds, I take little to no medication as I’m still breastfeeding. All the prizes are absolutely incredible! I would particularly love to win the Owgels portable Nebulizer. It’s such an essential item to have in the home and we don’t have one. I have 2 young kiddies and previously needed to borrow in a panic when we needed to nebulize. With winter here it’s even that more important to own one. The fact that it’s portable is so nifty!
Patches!! The little is on the move and we have started getting scratches to deal with. Living on a farm means dealing with our own waste, and chucking out plastic plasters that dont burn is something I would love to never do again!

Definitely the Nebuliser. We’ve had to Nebulize my 3 year old son a lot…I’m ashmatic and praying he’s not. I love the fact that it’s portable, also looks less noisy then a lot of the ones one the market. But I mean everything here is literally everything I want I promise you.

Being pregnant while in Lockdown is definitely not what I thought my first pregnancy will be like.
No Baby shower, no maternity shoot, not being able to show my tummy to my family (in another province), no exciting baby Expo’s to go to.
