5 beauty essentials for summer!

by | Nov 13, 2018 | Clean Beauty, Things we love | 0 comments

Summer in South Africa means time in the sun, scorching warm days and loads of outdoor fun. Things get hot but with these 5 beauty essentials for summer, your days are bound to be cooler, fresh and chemical free.

Our #1 priority and beauty essential has to be SUNSCREEN!

Our weekends are filling up with braai dates, pool parties and loads of time outdoors. It definitely is the season to be out and about having fun and making memories but a dealing with a sunburn shouldn’t be part of it all…

We go nowhere without the Pure Beginnings Baby & Kids Sensitive Sun Milk.Just a Mamma summer essentials

The Pure Beginnings Baby & Kids Sensitive Sun Milk (SPF50+) offers broad-spectrum protection (UVA/UVB) against the sun and can be used by the entire family. Mr. Perfect burns while thinking of the sun and our eldest reacts to most sunscreens but not the Pure Beginnings Sensitive Sun Milk.

It’s also water resistant and made from 100% natural mineral filters, guaranteed nanoparticle-free with no added nasties. Aloe Vera helps to sooth sensitive skin while Karanja oil, rapeseed and carrot root extract nourishes dry skin.

Completely safe for babies too. Ava’s never needed to use any other sunscreen since she was only a few months old.

I also like that it is fast absorbent, non greasy and doesn’t stain clothes or swimwear. We don’t leave the house without applying our Pure Beginning Sensitive Sun Milk and we have a spare in the diaper bag and car caddy too.

#2 keeps me fresh (and odourless) all day long… ECO ROLL ON

Finding a natural deodoriser (that works) is almost impossible but I’ve found that using a Pure Beginnings Eco Roll On regularly does the trick.

These aluminium free, Sodium bicarbonate based deodorants target the bacteria that causes body odour by eliminating their ability to break down sweat.

I’ll be honest; I don’t sweat too much but running around after 3 kids will get anyone perspiring. Applying the Pure Beginnings Eco Roll On twice a day helps me stay confident and smelling minty fresh – the Forest is my favourite scent next to the Fragrance free options.

Summer also means mozzie season and you can’t be caught without #3 MOSQUITO REPELLENT

In our home Lia is the “tastiest” and mosquitos can’t resist taking a nibble. She gets frustrated and can’t help but scratch herself till she bleeds. That’s why preventing and minimising insect bites are key.

Once again Pure Beginnings have developed one of our favourite insect repellents, a 100% Natural Insect Repellent Spray and a Insect Repellent Stick.

100% Natural, just the way we like it! These insect repellents are made from citronella, lemon eucalyptus, neem and lemon bush – Ingredients known to keep mosquitos and biting insects away. DEET free and with no synthetic chemical ingredients either.

It’s safe to use on our girl’s skin and won’t harm the environment or the delicate eco-system of our bug buddies.

Using the spray and stick together works best for us and once again applying regularly is a must.

#4 is something for our hair… Our favourite CONDITIONING SPRAY

It’s no secret, I struggle with dry hair and so does Eliana. I’m always looking for ways to feed our locks especially during summer when swimming, heat and the sun takes its toll. We recently discover Kafui Natural Hairspray and I am impressed by the results so far…

  • Aloe Vera protects and nourishes our hair making it feel silky smooth straight after use and tangle free – thank goodness, brushing Lia’s hair had become a nightmare.
  • I’ve heard so many good things about Jamaican Black Castor Oil’s ability to strengthen hair from within by stimulating blood flow to the scalp. Stronger hair means less breakage and dryness which will lead to growth. YAY! My ultimate goal.
  • Neem oil keeps our hair shinny and soft.

We all spray our hair at least once a day with this powerful combo.

And then, #5, the secret to instantly feeling shower fresh, LULA & MARULA REFRESHING TONIC MIST

Summer after summer (and even during winter too) you’ll find my 100ml Lulu & Marula Refreshing Tonic Mist in my handbag (or diaper bag).

Friendly to all skin types this hydrating mist gives skin an instant boost! It’s like applying a light serum and acts in protecting skin.

Chemical, parabens, SLS and soap free the Refreshing Tonic Mist is made from an all-natural blend of gentle ingredients that include rose, cucumber and aloe vera extracts to tone and hydrate your skin. Infused with rosemary and gingko biloba, this Refreshing Tonic Mist refreshes and stimulates your body as well as your mind.

I simply shake and spray after applying my makeup and then refresh with a spritz or two throughout my day. The girls enjoy it too and ask for a “mini shower” every time they see it – even Mr.Perfect has been caught “refreshing” his skin.
