One of my biggest pregnancy challenges has been finding pretty and functional hospital and postpartum pyjamas. That was until I crossed paths with Nuwen Design. The brain-child of Hilde van Niekerk – mother, grandmother and lactation specialist. Nuwen Design was created to meet the needs of breastfeeding moms. Giving woman the opportunity to breastfeed with ease and style.
My favourite item from their collection is the pyjamas! Going for round 3, I know how much time I’ll be spending at home. The 1st couple of weeks will be all about breastfeeding, cuddling and sleeping and I’ll be living in my pjs. (Even more so with our winter babe.)
The criteria for the perfect hospital / postpartum pjs:
- Easy breastfeeding.
- Full chest access for skin-to-skin contact. (A 4th trimester must!)
- No bottoms.
- Comfort, easy care and of course it needed to look good.
The Copenhagen Summer Pyjamas is a must-have for your hospital bag.
Mamas planning natural birth can wear this instead of an ugly, oversized tee or hospital frock. Being a nightie it’s great for after a c-sections as well when no pants are allowed.
The best part about this nightie is the super easy breastfeeding access. One button and a row of hidden poppers in the front can easily be loosened for breast access and opening both sides gives baby full chest access, perfect for that all important skin-to-skin time.
The cotton / lycra fabric drapes beautifully around your body and it’s super soft and comfy. It’s also light and breathable keeping me comfortable in the super warm, “always summer” maternity ward.
Helpfull info: They keep the temperature warm all year round in the maternity ward so no need for winter pjs.
At home I lived in my Hawaii Pyjama Dress.
These dresses are great during and after pregnancy thanks to the waist ties.
It’s the perfect summer loungewear dress but worked just as well during winter too – I just added a little cardigan. I didn’t mind receiving guests and felt beautiful in the gorgeous floral prints. Made from soft and breezy woven fabric, it is also crease-resistant so I could move from the bed to the couch without looking like I climbed out of the laundry basket.
I also love the longer length of the Hawaii Dress. No need to wear pants over my sensitive caesarean scar and I didn’t feel self-conscious of my postpartum body.
And most importantly, with the same button / popper design as the Copenhagen nightie it makes breastfeeding and skin-to-skin time super easy.
If you’re planning to breastfeed, you need one of these dresses!
Another beautiful, hidden Nuwen Design touch is the blessing Hilde bestows unto every mama – adding various scriptures sewn into every garment.
