I have been part of some wonderful campaigns but never has one been so close to my heart as the #lovemoreZA movement. It all started with a WhatsApp and a play date…
I’ve always admired Michelle, the mama maker and creative force behind Mayalief. We met many years ago at the Flair Baby Market and what started out as a customer relationship soon became a friendship. We share similar values and a passion for our families and mothering. Working together (on whatever) is a bonus! Most of the time ideas spark and happen over a quick play date and endless voice notes.
Similarly Chantelle from La Fédé was dropped into our lives after a purchase from Rock-a-baby Baby Fair spreading her endless love, blessing me with a friendship hard to describe but one I am forever grateful for.
Both these woman are my friends, my inspiration, my momspiration and support and it’s through our shared love for local, God, our families and the 7 kids we share collectively as well as the need to be creative that we are bonded for life.
So… when Michelle contacted me about her new toddler range and Chantelle asked for opinions on her upcoming Alphabet Value’s collection I felt compelled to join in and together the #lovemoreZA campaign came to be!
Like most of you reading this, we are mothers to little people growing up in a world that values:
things over people,
hate over love
and hard “truths” over compassion.
Bullying is at an all time high and it’s not something we out grow or leave behind after school. With so much “mom-shaming” and passive aggressive, sarcastic commenting all over social media we have become a society that strives to teach our kids to have thick skins, be witty and clever and look out for number one.
What has happened to placing yourself 2nd? Caring about others 1st? Having faith, empathy and acting in kindness? Is positivity only for the idealistic? Why are most people such “know-it-alls”? Thinking they know someone and have a right to judge them based on the little they see. Why are we so quick to judge? Placing whoever we meet neatly into the stereotyped boxes we have labeled and ready to use.
With depression, divorce, suicide, anxiety, aggression and so many other mental stressors and illnesses on the rise, isn’t it time for change?
These are the same questions Michelle and Chantelle are asking and it’s through the #lovemoreZA campaign that we are striving to bring awareness.
I have been bullied, excluded, made to feel worthless and alone – At times it was due to my own insecurities but mostly it was due to other’s malicious intent. Acts by true mean girls (woman).
Michelle designed this beautifully, simplistic toddler tee range (available in size 1-5) as a “visual reminder to those wearing it and those seeing it, that peace can be promoted through the mere act of loving each other more. Doing this doesn’t have to be something massive. It is achieved through simple everyday acts: smiling at a stranger, doing a good deed and thinking through the consequences of ones’ actions.”
…and love one another.
Big change can start with small acts of love.
And as fate would have it…
Similarly, Chantelle has created a capsule collection consisting of 4 new characters, representative of La Fédé’s 4th year in business. Inspired by Just Jinger song; “What he means“.
“As I mother I’ve been saddened by how society has accepted dislike and bad behaviour towards one another. We’re bombarded daily with posts of bullies and children behaving terribly towards each other. And instead of seeing kindness and love for one another we see how socially acceptable it is to just be self-centered and rude to our fellow human beings. We can all unite as one when we know our worth and know each others’. Instead of only teaching our children that “M is for Monkey” or we can also teach them that “M is Mindful”, changing the way they look at others, act towards others and ultimately, contribute to a kinder future for all.
Piggie, Panda Girl, Froggie and Lion are meant to impact children’s lives in a positive and meaningful way, while keeping things fun and playful. So I created our newest 4 characters to be a little light in darkness, a little meaningful and a positive contribution to our youngster’s.
The 6 Values promoted are:
IDENTITY – Knowing who I am and not looking for who I am in the world or in others.
EQUAL – Gender and race equality. Treating others the same as yourself.
FREEDOM – Not bound by your upbringing or our past or what has happened to us, but free to express and be who we where created to be.
WORTHY – To be loved and to love.
MINDFUL – Of others, their needs, their culture, their upbringing. That they may not always think the same as I do.
RESPECT – For others and yourself.
Little eyes are always looking…
I am a mom! The one that sets the tone and example at home. Together with Mr. Perfect, we are raising 3 girls. 3 girls we strive to teach not just right from wrong but also good. Because life is not black and white and we are not here to judge but rather love. It is through this love that we ultimately change our circumstances, our lives and our world. Being a Christian, Christ teaches us and shows us how “living” this 1 command can transform EVERY last thing.
It is however a truth that transcends faith and religion. A universal way of life that can only lead to a better future. One we can help shape, even if we are only the fire starters.
I am forever grateful to all the other bloggers (Mascara & Mimosas, Little Interiors, Demi Lucas, Compassion Kid) and local makers (Mia Mae) that took part in this photoshoot and the 1st leap with us in starting the conversation but now it’s onto YOU, the person reading this, the parents raising the future. Please join us and let’s all #lovemoreZA
