How to become a Fit Couple: Get healthy together!

by | Feb 26, 2019 | Health + Wellness, Things we love | 32 comments

Being fit and healthy isn’t just trendy but also an important priority, especially for parents. We all want to live long, healthy lives making memories with our kids.  However, finding time (and money) to workout isn’t easy. I know we’ve struggled. That was until this year… 2019 is the years we become a Fit Couple!

Our Fit Couple goal

Mr. Perfect loves working out, I on the other hand, although I try – need motivation. I completely lack the self-discipline needed to train alone even though I love the benefits exercise brings. Having a gym partner that keeps me accountable (and on my toes) is key.

Our main goal isn’t gaining “hot summer bodies”. We simply want to feel good and be strong so that we can keep living an active family life doing the things we love like traveling, playing with our kids and maybe even having another.

Fit Couple Planking.1

How we plan to achieve it

We already eat healthy but now we need to physically challenge our bodies. We plan on doing this by working out together, in the comfort of our own home, using our Cactic Fitness system.

20 minutes daily, 3-5 days a week. That’s all that’s needed to get into shape!

Why with Cactic Fitness?

Cactic Fitness started with a passion for heathy living and a problem that needed to be solved. After the birth of our first daughter, Eliana, we suddenly no longer had the time to go to gym. We weren’t the only parents struggling with this challenge and soon realised it was a common problem. Out of time, and desperate to train, Mr Perfect got together the Cactic team and designed a gym for the father and businessman that had no time.

It needed to be compact, used at home or at the office and intended for a full body workout. Minimal amount of space while still providing maximum value. What they came up with far exceeded expectations and needs.

The patented system is designed with a focus on strength, functional, resistance and calisthenic training. It’s a fitness solution that accommodates any person, no matter their fitness level, age or gender.

Fit Couples workout

Core to Cactic’s values lies the believe of FUN. FAMILY. FITNESS. and we can definitely attest to that.

We setup our homegym outside and for the past 3 years we’ve been using it.

I mostly make use of the rubber resistance bands and exercise mat provided to simulate pilates type training while Mr. Perfect enjoys the dip stand for more hardcore exercises. But the possibilities are endless.

It’s been the most incredible investment we could have made and after all these years we’ve only needed to replace the resistance bands ever so often.

I don’t just stand behind the system because my husband “made it”, but because it truly gave a solution to our problem…

Now we don’t have any excuses. We simply step out the door and into our full body gym. A full body gym that works so effectively that we only need 20 minutes a day to see actual results. An added bonus is seeing our girls take an interest in their bodies too, “working out” (or rather playing along) while we exercise and already learning about leading a healthy life.

Added benefits we experience as a fit couple

  • Getting some “us-time” is a win in itself.
  • Sharing a goal and supporting each other in our fitness journey has brought us closer.
  • We both have more energy, feel more relaxed and able to handle the stressors of family life and work, which in turn makes our home happier.
  • Lastly, lets just say feeling more confident in my own skin carries over to other areas of our marriage too.

There really isn’t any down side to being a fit couple.

Remember to take care of you biggest organ too…

Part of our fit couple goals is taking care of our skin.

Couple skincare products

The Oolala Collection understands the toll “getting your sweat on” takes on skin and have come up with a brand new, specialised range; OolalaSWEAT.

This powerful 3 step solution is so easy to follow daily and will improve your skin’s health while protecting it from environmental damage and premature ageing. The three products included are:

READY – 3in1 Detox Activated Charcoal Cleanser +Toner +Exfoliator

South African skincare oolalaSWEAT-READY

With ingredients like Witch Hazel and Activated Charcoal your face is gently detoxed, cleansed and toned.

The Apricot Seed Powder acts like an exfoliator removing dead skin, oil and impurities while restoring your skin’s pH balance without stripping away moisture. It also contains Vitamin A and E, which slows down the process of ageing.

SET – 2in1 Moisturiser & Sunblock With Non-Nano Zinc Oxide

South African skincare oolalaSWEAT-SET

Fast absorbing and water resistant for up to four hours this moisturiser and sunblock protects the skin from the harmful effects of sweat and environmental factors.

The Avocado and Jojoba Seed oil with Shea Butter softens and nourishes skin.

Argan oil doesn’t just protect from the sun. It also contains a large number of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties reducing the symptoms for a number of inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis and rosacea.

Grape Seed Oil boosts collagen, fights wrinkles, prevents acne, balances oil production and brightens the complexion.

GO – Cucumber & Juniper Berry Hydration Face Mist + Vitamin Booster

South African skincare oolalaSWEAT-GO

The mist is our favourite and I use it to freshen up throughout the day. Loaded with minerals and vitamines “GO” gives tired, dry skin new life and improves the skin’s natural regenerative and resilience capacity. It calms, soothes, cools and detoxes instantly

Fit couple skincare

As an added bonus the OolalaSWEAT range is:

I would love to train with my husband there is something so romantic about it, and getting toned at the same time, bonus! Training in the pool together is a definite goal, and also setting up a gym at home is a serious goal still needs to be attained!

Since the birth of my daughter 2 years ago.. I have def fallen into “that slump”. As my husband works away..and I homeschool my 10year old it has been near impossible finding something that works for us both. So we have just been going about doing our own things and I have been focussing on getting my sweat on while getting my son more interested in healthy living and exercising…. needless to say.. I have not nearly been doing enough.

Now, with my 3rd due in just a few days, I think my main concern has been how on earth I will be getting fit and feeling strong again after this pregnancy as I know I am going to be beyond busy.

I would love to get back to workouts with hubby (we used to love MMA, kayaking and lots of hiking) ..non of which have really been all family friendly, so I guess my main goal fitness wise would be to find that balance where we can minimize workout time to a toddler and babies nap time… or something that doesn’t cause me to have to get up ridiculously early. Either way.. fitness wise, 2019’s goal is strong and healthy!!!

My goal for this year is to run a 10k – my boyfriend is supporting me. We regularly go jog together but would love to have a “gym” at home to do some training in between our busy schedules! It’s been great for our relationship to exercise together!

We want to SWEAT – I have always loved being active and staying fit. I have trained with my hubby before but due to his injuries along the way the workouts I do are no longer suitable for him so this prize would be perfect for us to train together at home with our 10 month old son.

I don’t think there’s a better feeling than to walk hand in hand with your partner whilst feeling confident in how you both look because as a couple you feed off each others energy instinctively. Let’s face it, everything looks better x2 and a couple that looks good, feels good TOGETHER. My husband and i’s fitness goal has always been about motivating each other to work out. When one suggests running on a Friday night, the other agrees only if it means going out to a nice dinner the following evening. Missing a Sunday Funday to work out – You’d better believe that we’ll treat ourselves the following Friday. This lightheartedness about working out proves that working out together is fun, but spending time together afterwards is even better with our kids

As we near the 40 mark it has become more important for us to become fit and healthy. We don’t want beach bods..just strong minds and healthy bodies so that we can keep up with our 5 and 7year old:))
My husband also has a very hectic work schedule so he hardly have time to exercise 🙁 needless to say we also have very little time to spend together.
I think this prize will help with three vital things for us :)) spending time together while getting fit to have fun with the kiddos!x

As a family we enjoy staying active, our goal for 2019 is to work on our endurance and enter more events like warrior races. Encourage and help other couples wanting to reach their goals also motivating my wife to persue a career in fitness. Being the best we can be and enforcing a healthy lifestyle is the most important thing we as parents can do for our little girl #weWantToSweat #oolalaSweat #couplesgoals #funfamilyfitness #gymyourway #valenmine

Our baby was born in November 2018 and since then it’s been very difficult for the both of us to get back into a good exercise routine… Given the lack of sleep and tiredness! Our goal is to get back to being fit and healthy pre-pregnancy. In fact today wasbthe first day I stepped into the gym since falling pregnant! Hoping to get back to running, weight training and yoga!

    This is so exciting!!!
After 4 years and 2 kids we are making 2019 the year of Mr and Mrs Dayaram.
We have just begun training together and putting each other and ourselves first. We also want to be healthy and want to be able to keep up with our super speedy kids who can run circles around us as we huff and puff away. ??
This would be so amazing to add to our home and help keep us dedicated to our goal and teach our kids to put your health first. I’m also so self conscious at the gym i stick to cardio as I’m always afraid I’m using the machines incorrectly ??

    Hi.
Reading through some of the post and thinking, all are deserving. The struggle is real. Reality.
We want to sweat, we want to loose the extra (50kg) weight, we want to win! We want to do it together.

Hubby has been very supportive of my weight loss journey and I of his. Unfortunately it has not been easy, have set a goal but not being able to exercise has prolonged the journey thus far. Going to the gym is not an option as there is no childcare facilities thus not even an option to consider. If we are to be the chosen ones it would be heaven sent, at least the children can run around on the grass discovering the outside world whilst we get our parents body in shape (they might even join in).

Working out was always a daily routine which had to change when children stepped into the picture, still tried but not having the right equipment hasn’t made it easy. Looking after our skins is just as important seeing that we might be working out outside as well, awesome prize from The Oohlala Collection.

Thank you for all the articles it is really very interesting.

    Holding thumbs. x

Hi there! Thank you for the amazing competition!

Me and my partner have both struggled with trying to keep in shape for most of our lives. No that we are together, we are there to motivate and help each other. Unfortunately, the time, costs and embarrassment of going to the gym is a real issue for us. So this system would be the perfect way to get us into the swing of things and to get fit! Please help us to be better versions of ourselves! 😉

    Thanks again! 😀
