Christmas isn’t all white and snowflake covered, especially not if you live in the southern hemisphere. Nope, to us it’s about long summer days, cooling off with a splash and late afternoon thundershowers. You’ll definitely be needing a festive drink to keep you cool. So, be sure to keep our cheat’s Sangria recipe close.
For our Sangria recipe you’ll need a Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay – A crisp wine with fruity undertones. This Sangria is light and refreshing (and headache free). Some sparkling apple cider – I like making it easy so Appletiser it is. Sugar, your favourite festive berries or cherries and an apple or two. Granny Smith or Golden Delicious will do. Lastly, a few sprigs of rosemary to add a savoury taste.
Making our festive Sangria is easy peasy… It’s simply about combining all the ingredients.
I add the wine, Appletiser and sugar first, stirring together with a wooden spoon until the sugar dissolves.
Chop the cherries and apples into small chunks. Add to the wine mixture with a few sprigs of rosemary.
Refrigerate the Sangria overnight. Now, get creative with a sprig of rosemary and a few cherries.
Enjoy poolside, next to the “braai” or while watching the sun set over the ocean.
