Get the popcorn because it’s that time of year when it’s okay to be a little naughty, and overindulge in some good old screen time. Find out which movies we watch year-after-year. Which animations are our favourite, the romantic comedies that give us all the feels and the movie releases we are most looking forward to!
This is the only Christmas Movie List you’ll ever need, with Christmas Movies for everyone!
Christmas movies we watch year-after-year
1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
This might not be a movie about Christmas but both Mr. Perfect and I are MASSIVE fans from even before we met.
December 2001, 2002 and 2003 all included movie tickets to the cinema releases of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Now, years later, watching the entire series during the month of December has become “our thing”.
2. The Grinch
In our home, The Grinch plays at least once a week… It’s Lia’s all-time favourite movie and book so, we have many variations. The 2000 Jim Carrey film is, however, her favourite. It’s so over the top but still every part as beautiful as the original – An all-round crowd-pleaser.
3. The Grinch AGAIN! but the 2018 version…
A newly imagined take on the grumpy green grouch who spends his days being nasty to everyone – except, perhaps, his dog Max. The Grinch especially hates Christmas, and plots to ruin the day for the village of Whoville – by stealing it. Based on the hugely popular story by Dr Seuss.
4. A Christmas Carol
Our girls are still too young for the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol but we can’t wait to share it with them at one of our future family movie nights someday…
Two of my own childhood “bests”… The Muppets and Charlie Brown. I have fond memories of our entire family watching these on M-Net’s Christmas Special all those years ago.
5. The Muppet Christmas Carol (Another cute rendition of this classic which may be better suited for young ones.)
6. Charlie Brown
More beautiful animation…
7. Arthur Christmas
8. Elliot: Littlest Reindeer
When Blitzen announces his retirement on December 21st, Elliot has three days to fulfil his lifelong dream of earning a place in Santa’s team. Meanwhile, his best friend Hazel discovers that back at the farm, their friends’ lives are in danger. Elliot has to choose – will he save Christmas, or his friends? Can he possibly do both?
Best Christmas Movies of the 80’s and 90’s!
Would it even be Christmas without Kevin McCallister?
3. Jingle All the Way
4. The Santa Clause
Three unconventional choices we adore;
2. Edward Scissor Hands
3. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Some Festive Romance…
Hands-down my favourite festive romantic comedy!
Mr. Perfect and I both really enjoyed these two – especially because they include two of our favourite actors. Ryan Reynolds and Sarah Jessica Parker.
2. Just Friends
3. The Family Stone
4. Love Actually
5. While You Were Sleeping
6. You’ve Got Mail
Christmas comedies for extra cheer
1. Deck the Halls
2. Fred Claus
A peek into Santa’s family life…
3. Christmas with the Kranks
And if your Mr. Perfect has the same humour as mine…
4. The Night Before (But I need to warn you, this one is very naughty!)
Top Christmas Movies on Netflix
1. The Christmas Chronicles
Our number one Netflix pick! The Christmas Chronicles includes everything you want a good Santa movie to have… Music, magic, adventure, cute elves and even Santa is a little naughty. It’s just good fun and Mrs. Claus’s appearance, right at the end made it even better!

1. Four Christmases
A great family comedy the little ones especially enjoy…
Beautiful animations for the entire family include;
1. Angela’s Christmas

New movie releases to add to your list of Christmas Movies for this year…
We enjoy going to the movies with the girls for special releases but this year we have some special features waiting just for us too…
Three movies we can’t wait to go see are:
1. Frozen 2 (In cinema 6 December 2019)
The girls have been waiting for years! Let Frozen fever commence. And for the die-hard fans (just like us) book a ticket for the pre-screening at The Grove Mall on Sunday, the 1st of December. There will be loads of special promos running on the day too.
2. Jumanji: The Next Level (In cinema 13 December 2019)
3. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (In cinema December 18th)
I may just “force” Mr. Perfect to watch all the movies again from the beginning to the end!
Ooh and if you’re looking for somewhere amazing to go enjoy these films, definitely book your seats at Ster-Kinekor The Grove Mall! With IMAX, Prestige, 2D, and 3D you can’t ask for a better movie experience! We’ll see you there.
