We all know mom life is hard but it can also be hard on your skin. An unexpected keepsake from pregnancy has been pigmentation. Every time I fall pregnant we don’t just grow our family but I also get an added pigmentation spot. Always on the left side of my face, around my eyes and upper cheek. The pigmentation gets darker and the spots bigger and more. They tend to lighten up after breastfeeding but never disappear.
We are suppose to age gracefully and love our ever changing mombods but I’m not ready to give up this fight. Like most people, I like having flawless skin. I don’t want to be covered in foundation, erase paste, concealer and whatever else. I don’t want to feel uncomfortable about a few spots BUT in truth I do. They really bother me and I instantly feel self-conscious when anyone notices them.
Is there a solution?
I’m not sure, but Vivior Beauty Studio may have the answer. Owner (and mom) Lyritia Potgieter knows exactly how moms feel and how difficult all these unforeseen bodily changes impacts a woman’s sense of self. Together with her team of experts she aims to make woman feel good and see their own beauty. She recommended I try a series of pHformula Skin Resurfacing treatments to lighten my hormonal pigmentation.
Now firstly; what is pHformula Skin Resurfacing?
pHformula is the specific product they use. It’s the 1st pharma-cosmeceutical skin resurfacing line. That’s basically a big, fancy word for when medical and cosmetic treatments unite giving our skin the best possible opportunity to improve. Yes, this includes using chemicals but in a controlled manner in order to stimulate regeneration of skin.
Therapists can regulate the pHformula product range and customise the intensity of your treatment to best suit your needs. Because of this customisation pHformula Skin Resurfacing is safe to do while breastfeeding and even during pregnancy – when pigmentation is developing.
Skin Resurfacing is when exfoliating products are used to improve the texture and tone of your skin by removing the damaged outer layers while stimulating rejuvenation from within.
“The action of controlled chemical skin resurfacing is totally different than conventional peelings. Peelings mainly cause skin exfoliation, whereas controlled resurfacing actively provokes an accelerated form of cell regeneration in the different layers of the skin, whilst trauma and superficial irritation is reduced. Advanced dermatological skin resurfacing procedures working from the outside in, combined with powerful skin nutrition, working from the inside out provide the skin with the full benefits assisting in rapid skin restoration.”
Who can benefit from pHformula Skin Resurfacing?
pHformula Skin Resurfacing is used to successfully treat skin disorders like premature ageing, hyperpigmentation, acne and chronic redness. Rough skin texture, sun-damage and certain scars can also be improved.
I know, if you’re an all natural, slap on the basics kind of gal like me all of the above sounds a little terrifying but let me asure you it’s not. It was actually more like a facial minus the steam and constant face washing.
I was treated to a M.E.L.A. resurfacing treatment specifically targeting hyperpigmentation. It reduces the accumulation of melanin pigment already formed in the skin. A layer of clay formulation was applied to my clean skin. While it was left to work it’s magic I got treated to a head, neck and shoulder massage. Afterward the pHformula was removed and sunscreen was applied. I didn’t feel any discomfort , burning or pain at all.
We even had time before hand to do a lash and brow tint – that brow tint was life changing but more soon.
Later during the day my skin started to feel a little tight, almost dry, but I was warned that it was to be expected. About 3 days after the treatment I noticed light peeling on my nose and chin. The treatment had obviously done it’s job. This continued for another 3 days and thereafter everything was back to normal. Actually better than normal… After only 1 treatment my skin definitely feels softer and the texture has improved. The pigmentation has however not changed. I will need to do at least 6 treatments due to the severity of my spots.
Aftercare for Skin Resurfacing
No exfoliation for 10 days, wear an SPF every day and use a hydrating moisturiser. For best results you can use the pHformula range available at Vivior but I prefer sticking to my current skin care range. Skin resurfacing should be done once month but can be scheduled every 2 weeks in severe cases. I’m looking forward to my next treatment and seeing if we can finally get rid of the spots!
