Family Maternity photoshoot amongst the Lavender fields.

August 11, 2017

Being pregnant with our 3rd babe has been such an enormous blessing and in so many more ways than just the obvious. One of the biggest gifts baby number 3 has given me thus far has been all the incredible opportunities to meet, collaborate and work with other wonderful woman. From styling my bump, sharing pregnancy and baby must-haves and more, my favourite collaboration has to be our maternity photoshoot!

In the past we’ve always made a big fuss when it came to our pregnancy shoots but we kept things casual. Inspired by a Melissa Swart’s Ethereal Maternity Photoshoot  previously featured on our blog; I also wanted to do something beautiful and feminine. Photos to look back on and say WOW!

At 36 weeks pregnant, after weeks of planning…

All our photoshoot dreams came true thanks to the incredible eye and endless patience of Chanel, from Chanel O Photography, the gorgeous dresses, especially designed and made for me and the girls by Gelique, make-up perfection from Melissa Glam Bam and the hospitality and enchanted setting of Lavender SA‘s farm just outside Pretoria.

Sibling love…

Eliana and Lia kicked off our maternity session and although they had never met Chanel, she got them to relax, feel at ease and just be themselves. Hats off to her for even getting our camera-shy Eliana to shine and smile.

Family next…

As with most families with more than one little one, getting the perfect group shot can be close to impossible. Thank goodness we’ve never cared much for perfection, rather focusing on capturing the memory. I love the candid images Chanel took of our little ladies… Lia fooling around (as always) and a precious father-daughter moment between Alec and Eli.

Just us…

Being a self-proclaimed “mamarazzi” we don’t have a lot of recent photos of just us two. It’s usually Alec and the girls – every now and again I make an appearance. We are however the heartbeat of our family and have decided to change this and prioritise including both of us in the family album.

Being a little rusty, Chanel was great at suggesting poses, getting us to interact and really bringing out our true personalities. These photos aren’t just beautiful; they tell the story of us. Reflecting our love, playful banter and Mr. Perfect’s protective nature. Aspects of our relationship easily forgotten in our day-to-day parenting life.

Some Glam Bam for mama…

Professional hair and make-up. Another brilliant suggestion by Chanel. Melissa came to our home with everything needed. I could sit back and enjoy. With gorgeous clients like our current Miss. SA, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters she knows how to bring out and enhance a woman’s natural beauty. Spending time with her is also like a mini spa-retreat for the soul. Her positivity, friendliness and passion for making others embrace their own beauty is a blessing and I would have her make me pretty everyday. We had the best time and I even learned a thing or two.

THE DRESS…

The last time I had someone design and make me a dress was our wedding day so needless to say when Angelique from Gelique contacted me I jumped at the opportunity. This was such a massive pregnancy highlight! Her love and passion for celebrating every shape, form and phase of a woman’s body was evident since the moment we met and having her dress me and the girls was amazing.  You’ll have to wait for my next post to see the entire glory of her beautiful creations and also why I HIGHLY recommend every woman to book an appointment at Gelique.

That’s it for our 3rd family maternity photoshoot. Something a little more stylish, classically beautiful and in celebration of our growing family.

Special thanks to Lavender SA for letting us explore and play in their beautiful fields of lavender. Thank you for providing a space for us to get dressed and spoiling us with 3 pretty lavender bouquets. Just another touch of purple making an unplanned appearance in our pregnancy.
